Doge’s Palace: reserved ticket, guided tour or Secret Itineraries?
Updated October 11, 2026 · 4 min read
For most first-time visitors, the reserved ticket is enough: it gives you time for the state rooms, armoury, Bridge of Sighs and prisons without tying the entire visit to a group. Book a guided tour if Venetian government and the paintings matter more than moving at your own pace. Choose the Secret Itineraries only for the restricted rooms; it is not simply a quicker entrance.
Three genuinely different visits
| Choice | Best reason to buy | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Reserved entry | Flexible first visit | You supply the explanations |
| Guided tour | History in context | Fixed pace and meeting time |
| Secret Itineraries | Cells and government rooms off the standard route | Narrow stairs and limited departures |
The reserved Doge’s Palace ticket starts at €35. The palace’s official visitor information lists opening from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. from April through October and to 6 p.m. from November through March, with last admission one hour earlier. Check extraordinary notices before travelling.
The official Secret Itineraries visit lasts about 1 hour 15 minutes and continues into the palace independently afterwards. It uses steep, narrow stairs and confined rooms; the museum says it is inaccessible to people with mobility difficulties, unsuitable during pregnancy and does not admit children younger than six. That makes the standard route the honest choice for many travellers.
What to book
Take reserved entry if you want the complete public route and can read as you go. Take a guide if names such as the Council of Ten need explanation. Take Secret Itineraries only if Casanova’s prison world and hidden administration are the point of the visit. Compare current combinations among the Venice attraction tickets.
