Venice vaporetto and bus pass: which pass is worth it?
Updated October 11, 2026 · 4 min read
A pass is worth it when you will make three or more waterbus journeys in 24 hours, or when you stay on an island and commute. If you arrive at Santa Lucia, walk through central Venice and take one scenic ride, buy a single ticket instead.
The break-even point
Official Venezia Unica information lists the ticket valid for 75 minutes at €9.50 and passes at €25 for 24 hours, €35 for 48 hours, €45 for 72 hours and €65 for 7 days. On those prices, three single rides cost €28.50, already more than the 24-hour pass. Two rides cost €19 and remain cheaper.
The waterbus and mainland bus pass also starts at €9.50, but select the duration carefully. Validity begins with first validation, not midnight. Validate every time required by the system even when the pass is already active.
ACTV timed passes cover the urban navigation network and mainland buses, trams and People Mover, subject to listed exclusions. They do not automatically include travel to Marco Polo Airport, Alilaguna airport boats or every special line. Check the operator before treating “Venice transport” as one system.
Quick decision
Buy one ticket for one ride, a 24-hour pass for an island day plus an evening boat, and a longer pass only when the full stay contains repeated journeys. Walking is often faster in the centre. For most two-day first visits, 24 hours strategically activated beats paying for 48 hours automatically. Compare the current pass listing.
